Our Mission

The Writing and Design Lab (WDL) is a multiliteracy center housed in the Rutgers-Camden Digital Commons at 101 Cooper Street. The WDL supports students working in a variety of genres and media from traditional academic papers to multimodal compositions. A 21st century writing center, the WDL recognizes the role of technology at every stage of the composing process and the importance of design in the effective communication of ideas.

The WDL trains (primarily) undergraduate consultants to meet with students one on one at any point in the writing process. In addition, the WDL leadership advises instructors on the effective integration of technology into classroom practices and course projects.

We support all undergraduates in the arts and science, business, colleges of nursing, social work. All graduate students should contact their director of graduate studies in their respective schools for writing support.

Consultations

Our sessions are 45 minutes long, and our tutoring space is equipped with computers, so feel free to bring assignments requiring audio recording, web creation or desktop publishing software. Be sure to bring a flash drive or other means to save your work. Come in with an assignment or idea and our consultants will assist you in the entire writing process, from brainstorming through revision.

Our main space is in the Digital Commons at 101 Cooper Street. We ask that no student make more than one appointment per day and no more than three per week.

For faculty, the WDL is available to run small group workshops on a number of topics. Please contact us at rutgers.wdl@rutgers.edu to arrange a workshop for your class.
